SCHEME OF STUDY

In House institution for Practice Teaching ( K C Public School).Student teaching in K.C Public School is viewed as an integral part of teacher education program and regarded a joint responsibility of KC College of Education and K.C Public School. The objective of student teaching in K.C Public School is to orient the student teachers to the entire school situation, initiate them to actual teaching and enable them to do continuous teaching for a specified period under actual school conditions. The school expects that the existing student teaching should become a comprehensive internship in which student teachers are able to observe the entire work of the school and participate actively in all the important professional activities of a teacher both inside and outside of the classroom. As a result of this approach student teachers have opportunities to observe good teaching and become familiar with the school program as a whole. They know the kind of service provided in the school library, the science laboratories and on the playground and the role played by the teacher s of different subjects. They become acquainted with the school assembly program and the co-curricular activities in the school. Thus, K.C Public School, a premier institution of KC Group of Institutions serves as a most cooperating practicing school.

College Library: The College has a well-stocked library with latest books, journals and periodicals and newspapers.

College Magazine: The college magazine is published every year in English, Punjabi and Hindi. Psychology Lab, Computer Lab & Science Lab: All are well furnished and well equipped.

Audio-Visual Aids: The college has sufficient supply of teaching aids which are used by the students and teachers during teaching practice.

College Building: A state-of-the-art building with excellent physical infrastructure and vast play grounds and lush green lawns is located in a most congenial and conducive environment for studies.

Teaching is a skilled job. In order to develop some insight in the basic skills involved in teaching, the model lessons are delivered by the respective subject teachers in the actual class room situations.

School internship would be a part of the board curricular area of 'Engagement with the field 'and shell be designed to lead to development of the board repertoire of perspectives, professional, capacities, teacher sensibilities and skills. The curriculum of B.Ed. shall provide for sustained engagement with learners and the school(including engaging in continuous and comprehensive assessment for learning),thereby creating a synergy with schools in the neighborhood throughout the year. Students-Teachers shall be equipped to cater to diverse needs of learners in schools. These activities shall be organized for 4 weeks in the first year of the course.

Students are to be actively engaged in teaching for 16 weeks in the final year of the course. They shall be engaged at two levels, namely, upper primary (classes VI-VIII) and secondary (IX-X), or senior secondary, with at least 16 weeks in secondary/senior secondary classes. They should be provided opportunities to teach in schools with systematic supervisory support and feedback from faculty.

Internship in schools will be for a minimum duration of 20 weeks for a two-year programme (4 weeks in the first year, and 16 weeks in the second year as noted above). This should also include, besides practices teaching, an initial phase of one week for observing a regular classroom with a regular teacher and would also include peer observations, teacher observations and faculty observations of practice lessons.

The institution shall meet the following specific demands of implementing this professional programme of study:

(a) Prepare a calendar for all activities, including school internship. The school internship and other school
contact programmes shall be synchronized with the academic calendar of the school.

(b) Make an arrangement with at least ten schools for the Internship as well as other school-based activities
of the programme. The arrangement shall have the approval of the district education authorities. These schools shalt form basic contact point for all practicum activities and related work during the course of the programme.

(c) Transaction of the Perspectives in Education and Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies courses should be done using a multiple and variety of approaches such as case studies, problem solving, discussions on reflective journals in colloquia, observations of children in multiple socio-cultural environments. Interns shall maintain reflective journals and observation records, which provide opportunities for reflective thinking.

(d) Initiate discourse on education by periodically organizing seminars, debates, lectures and discussion groups for students and faculty

(e) Organize academic enrichment programmes including interactions with faculty from parent disciplines; and encourage faculty members to participate in academic pursuits and pursue research, especially in Schools. Provisions of leave shall be made for faculty to undertake research/teaching in universities and schools.

(f) School teachers shall be invited to teacher education institutions for feedback to student-teachers and for extension/guest lectures and organizing the colloquium.

(g) There shall be mechanisms and provisions for addressing complaints of students and faculty, and for grievance redressal.

(h) For school internship, the TEIs and the participating schools shall set up a mutually agreed mechanism for monitoring, supervising, trucking and assessing the student teachers.

Ordinances for B.Ed by GNDU (Amritsar)

Applicability of Regulation for the time being in force notwithstanding the integrated nature of a course spread over one academic year, the regulations in force at the time a student joins the course shall hold good only for the examination held during or at the end of the academic year. Nothing in these regulations shall be deemed to debar the University from amending the regulations subsequently and the amended regulation, if any, shall apply to all students whether old or new.

Duration of Course & Schedule of Examination

Eligibility

**Candidates with at least 50 % marks either in the Bachelor's Degree and/or in the Master's degree or any other qualification declared equivalent thereto, are eligible for admission to the programme. Any candidate with 49.99% or less marks would not be eligible.

** The reservation for SC/ST/OBC and other categories shall be as per the rules of the Central Government/State Government, whichever is applicable. There shall be a relaxation of 5 % marks in favor of SC/ST/OBC and other categories of candidates. Candidate with 44.99% marks or less would not be eligible.
**Added vide Para 3.2 of Appendix IV of N.C.T.E. Notification No. F-51F1/2007-N.C.T.E (N&S) dated 27-11-2007.provided that such minimum qualifying marks shall not automatically entitle a candidate to get admission in an institution but only entitle the candidate concerned to fulfill other institutional criteria notified by the institution concerned or by the Government concerned from time to time to apply for admission.

Candidate must have studied the major subject of the subject combination for at least two years at Bachelor's level/Master's level. Honors students shall opt for major subject in which they have obtained Honors the minor subject should have been studied at least for one year.

Candidates, who have appeared for the qualifying examination / Compartment cases, if their results are declared before closing date of registration, shall be considered.

In case of students who have done Honors' in languages such as Hindi, Punjabi and English, the major subject will be language. Such candidates would be allotted minor subject by the college on the basis of other subject option/ s permissible to the candidate by the respective university and availability of the same in the respective colleges.

Fees :-

Morning Assembly:- Once a week, the staff and the students sit together where students and teachers get opportunities to deliberate on various dimensions of education, religion, culture and morality.

Seminars and Tutorials:- Weekly seminars and tutorial group meetings are organized for informal discussions on disciplines related to the curriculum.

Extension Lectures:- Noted educationists, scholars and teachers are invited to address the students and teachers on a variety of educational problems.

Sports and Physical Activities:- Different sports and physical activities are organized including Annual Sports Day.

Educational Tours and Trips:- The college arranges short trips/tours/one-day picnics to various places of historical and cultural interests.

NSS:- An NSS unit will be introduced during the current session.

Activity Calendar:- All curricular and co-curricular activities are governed by the activity calendar.

Co-Curricular activities:- For the all round development of the personality of the students the college organizes a variety of activities in addition to encouraging the students to participate in the youth festival organized by G.N.D.U, Amritsar.

The college rules and regulations given below are to be strictly adhered to:

Library Rules

The College offers well-equipped library and spacious reading room. The students are expected to make maximum use of library. Each bonafide student is a member of college library.

1. The students are expected to observe perfect silence in the library and not disturb others in any way.
2. Non-transferable library –cum-identity cards are issued to all the students and books can be got issued only on these cards. Students are required to get identity cards within fortnight after paying their dues of admission. Two copies of their passport size photographs should be handed over to librarian. Loss of the card should be immediately reported to the librarian who will issue a duplicate card on payment of Rs.100 only.
3. The number of books which can be borrowed at a time is 2.
4. Books reserved for the staff members, reference books, textbooks and current periodicals shall not be issued except for consultation within the library premises.
5. The library books may be retained by the students for a period of 7 days after which they must be returned or get re-issued, the latter depending on the discretion of the librarian. A fine of Rs. 1 per volume per day is charged for the books for more than two weeks after the day of issue.
6. Books borrowed from the library must be returned to the librarian and no account be passed on to others.
7. Leave from the college does not imply non-return of the books. The book may be returned to the library by post under registered cover, if necessary.
8. Students responsibility will not be over until the books are shown as returned on the library card. Students are advised to be very careful in getting the signatures of the librarian on their cards while returning books.
9. If the book at time of returning to library is found defaced or damaged in any way the last borrower will be required to pay its price as damage.
10. Borrowers shall return all the books to the library at the time of Annual Stock Taking.
11. All the books along with the borrower’s card must be returned to the library before the Roll Numbers for the Annual Examination are issued to the students.
12. The library is for the use of all. If anybody is found guilty of removing any book, magazine or a portion of it from the library, he/she will be severely dealt with.
