Industrial Visit on 16-12-2021 at 132 kV Electrical substation Rakkar,Una(H.P.) by Enginnering Students

2021 12 16 Industrial Visit at 132 kV Electrical substation Rakkar

The Department of Electrical and Mechanical, KC Group of Research and Professional Institutes(Engineering) ,Una Pandoga had organized a one day visit to 132kV Electrical Substation, Rakkar (Una) on 16/12/2021. There were all Students from B.Tech, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering along with one Teaching faculty Er. Sukhpreet Singh (AP, Mechanical Department). We Reached substation at around 11:30 am. After Reaching there, Deepak Kumar (Assistant Engineer) Received us with a warm welcome. Er Deepak Kumar had explained the substation in depth. Then we were taken to the control room. In the control room, every quantity of substation is continuously monitored and we observed the real time data of substation on the panel. We also met with other employees of the substation and it had great technical discussion. Objective of visit: Our main purpose of the visit is to be familiar with industrial environment and to get knowledge of electrical power transmission and distribution. Being students of Electrical and Mechanical engineering they will get to know about basic industrial functioning of power transmission and distribution. Students got familiar with Transformer maintenance, circuit breaker, Transformer isolator, Bus bar, Protective relays, Lightening arresters, load break switched, Current and Voltage Transformer and Battery room. Some Glimpse of the visit are attached herewith:

Equipment in a 132 Kv Substation:
The Equipments required for a transformer substation depends upon the Sub-station, Servivce requirement and the degree of protection desired. 132Kv Sub-station Rakkar has the following

Major Equipments:
Bus Bar
Insulators
Isolating Switches
Circuit Breaker
Protective relay
Instrument Transformers
Current Transformer
Voltage Transformer
Metering and Indicating Instruments
Lightening arrestors
Line isolator
Wave Trap

Conclusion: With this visit they are made aware of how the transmission of electricity is done. Students too come to know about the various parts of sub-station system. The three wings of electrical system viz. generation, transmission and distribution are connected to each other. We are very thankful to 132Kv Sub-station, Rakkar (Una) for giving permission for the visit. Students got an opportunity to know regarding practical aspects about what they are learning in theory. It was firmly informative, interesting and a successful visit.
